July 6. 1847.
Sir
Your letter of 25 ulto on the subject of the removal of those Miamis who remain in Indiana after the body of their tribe removed, has been received-
It appears from your statement that the number amounts to about fifty--thirty of whom are in camp & that the remaining twenty manifest some hesitancy in going off at present. You ask what you are to do. The contract contemplates the removal of the whole tribe and the question cannot now properly arise as to what time those remaining [line struck out] shall be removed and all the [government?] has to do is to require the contractors to carry out the provisions of the contract. ^ leaving to him to do it within a reasonable time. Therefore beg leave to refer you to my letter of 25 M 12th ulto as containing the views of the Department on the subject.
With regard to the [prior subject?] for the removal of the Potawatomis who remain in Indiana
