It being absolutely necessary that I should have some person that I could rely upon to oversee the contractor and be certain that that they faithfully fuefilled their contract as for a feeding? the indians in [illegable] and who would make a statement under oath of the Miami in which the Indians had been fed and treated. I have appointed Willian B. White who has gone in with the boats with directions from me to visit each boat frequently and ascertain whether all their wants are [illegable] in? [illegable]. This I was compelled to do, as we? the contractor [illegable] [illegable] [illegable] whenever I should find it impossible to attend to all things myself.
