The examination of the late debts against the Miamis is concluded, although the Commissioners have not yet made their report. in the agreement to submit to this investigation the Indians ask the Department to set apart a portion of their annuities for the payment of the amount found due, and it is stipulated that nothing shall be consummated untill after the emigration is effected. If not inconsistent, I would ask that as soon as this agreement reaches you, an answer may given [sic] that no action could be had on it untill after the emigration is effected. And if an application should be made for a payment here before the removal, I hope it will not be granted, all things are right here now, and if they remain as they are, I do not entertain a doubt about being able to effect this emigration with very little further trouble.
