Office of Miami Eel River Fed Agency Fort Wayne 30 March 1846
Sir, I have had the honor to receive yours of the 17th directing me to make out & forward lists of such of the Miamis as are permitted to remain in this Country and of them who are to emigrate and will as speedily as possible carry out your wishes.
Robert Peebles Esq & his son John H. Peebles of Pittsburgh, are now here as the assigners of Thomas Dowling of a contract for the removal of the Miamis, and an arrangement is being made for assembling the tribe without delay, when the representatives of the contractor will have an opportunity of consulting with them in relation to their emigration.
The Indians will assemble at the request of their Chief for the purpose of making some arrangement with their children. I have been requested to call them together for that purpose but did not feel at liberty to do so. Should I receive from the Department directions for the investigation of their debts I shall see the same [illegible] effect without regard for anything that may be done under the present arrangement between
