I feel under singular obligations for this appointment, and shall endeavor so to discharge the trust as to meet every expectation of the Department. I have written to Mr. Dowling, advising him of my appointment, and my readiness to co-operate with him at any time in any effort he may be required to make in order to effect the emigration. Your letter of the 17<sup>th</sup> ult. with a patent for Land to Dupee has been received, and the patent will be delivered as directed.
