Dr Sir.
I hasten to write you, on the Resolution offered by the Hon. Jacob Thompson in regard to the removal of the Miami Indians. I having noticed it in the union of the 21s inst. which causes me to relate to you all the proceedings that took place at the council in May last, which I personally stated to the Hon. T. Hartley Crawford on my return from Indiana to Washington City. You will I think find on file in your Department a letter from Allen Hamilton Esqr the former Indian Agent, the proceeding of the council held at Chief La Fontain's in regard to the Removal of the Miami Tribe Indians to their new Homes west of the Mississippi.
The reason of A Hamilton writing was on account of the Death of Genl. Millroy, who died shortly after my arrival at Fort Wayne, which caused me to call on A Hamilton Esq to know how to proceed. Hen then [proceeded?] to give me a Letter to the Indian Chief, La Fontain, to have a council convened of the Head men of the Nation which was done.
