OnWednesday last the Miamis, in part assembled [illegible] from Peru in council. [illegible] give the agent + acting contractor a final answer relative to emigrating this fall. Thy would not visit the contractor's camp, + indeed could not all be assembled anywhere, so fearful were they that advantage would be taken of their assemblage to force them out of the country. The acting contractor took umbrage at their refusal to visit his camp & did [illegible] the council. I was not present at the council, although sent for by the Indians - I arrived on the ground [illegible] about two hours afterwards. The indians there informed [illegible] what this [illegible] "talk" with the agent had been + requested [illegible] + send it to you, fearing it might be his [illegible] by the agent. Sickness has hitherto prevented my  transcribing my [illegible] notes of it, to comply with their request.
