I have read a letter from the west in which is is stated, in speaking of the approaching emigration of the Miamis, that "Col. Madill has written back to Sinclair threatening to use force." I trust my information is not correct. I know that you have repeatedly said no force ^ <sup>should be used</sup> in the emigration of those people + I know know farther the the threat to use it can do no good. They are alarmed at such threat, which has even now been made + will not assemble in camps, in any number Much more can be done by <u>coaxing</u> than attempting to <u>drive</u> them. Trouble , if not blood shed will surely result from the latter. Why is it that they resist be treated like dogs? Cannot the common feelings of humanity be exercised in their behalf?
