preparations we had made involving in all an amt. not less than $30.000--all of which was to be endangered, if not lost, in the event of our failing to remove the Indians & comply with the contract.
Yet strange as it may appear and in the face of these facts, I am told that certain dirty enemies and scamps in Indiana, such as the corrupt & perfidious Madison Sweetser and others of his kind, have been obliging enough to state that we were "opposed to the removal of the Miamis."
I have not seen my family since last June, hope to join them before long at St. Louis from which point I may at some future time take the liberty to address you again upon this and other Indian subjects.
