Since I wrote you on the subject of permission to expense a small sum in feeding the Miamis. When called together for counsel on the subject of removal - I some saw some the chiefs the [illegible] chief Lafontaine seemed favorably disposed towards that object, agreeing with me in to the necessity of an early emigration on account of the Indians themselves The other chiefs with whom [I conversed?] were not so favorable to an early time of departure. None seemed willing to commit themselves, desiring to comsult the tribe. [I hoped?] can then to receive your permission to call them together. To communicate my [illegible] from the department, in counsel to them. A publication in the Indianapolis news papers copied in those published around us, of the contract of Mr. Dowling for removal of the tribe which was much exagerated, the transaction; caused the traders in opposition alledging as I understand many things against the mode of removal.
