Sir, It appears from a communication hearing date the 29th []; just received from the home Mr. Morris of the Indiana Legislature, and other [] with the office, that it is of the highest importance for the interest of that state that the late [] of the residue of the "Big Miami reserve" see Miami treaty concluded 28th of November 1840 should be surveyed in order that the authorities of the state may complete the canal selections Therefore [] leave to invite your attention to the stipulation contained in the 8th article of the treaty in the following words that the Miami tribe of Indians shall remove to the country as- "signed them west of the Mississippi within five years from this "date" and have to request information as to what steps, if any, have been taken by your Department for the removal of said Indians west, and of the probable line that the removal will be completed so that the lands may be surveyed and headed as pub- lic lands.
